Four Tips for Washing your Acura this Summer

Four Tips for Washing your Acura this Summer

Washing your Acura may not be something you think too hard about. But, there are many helpful tips that can be beneficial to your Acura when it’s being cleaned. Here are a few of them.

1) Cleaning products

Most soap specifically designed for washing your car is made to not be so harsh. If you use Dawn or other dishwashing soaps it’s important to remember to wax your car afterwards. Dishwashing soap is good at removing wax, not at providing a normal quick wash. If you’re not careful, you could potentially strip the clear coat right off entirely.

Even Dawn states that “your car’s surface and the dirt that gets on it are a lot different from the food soils and dishes that dish washing liquids clean effectively. We don’t recommend them for cleaning your car.”

2) Washing the Wheels

The finish on your wheels may be different than that of the rest of your vehicle. Make sure to choose a cleaning product that’s safe for all types of wheels and possibly one that is stronger to get rid of all the sand, brake dust and other debris that can build up in your wheel well.

3) Avoid Using a Swirling Motion

When you’re using a sponge, try not to use a swirling motion. This can cause noticeable scratches called swirl marks. Consumer Reports suggests a lengthwise motion across the hood and the other body panels.

4) Get Rid of Bird Droppings Right Away

Once your car is clean it’s important to make sure that the next time a pigeon leaves a dropping it should be wiped off as soon as possible. The chemicals in bird poop can strip away your clear coat and if you don’t have time to wash your entire vehicle, it’s a good idea to take a wet rag and get rid of any droppings as soon as you notice them.

Happy Washing!
